Can someone please provide some references/testimonials of large customers running Zabbix? Would help justify our decision if we had some large, credible IT shops running and standing behind it.

I used to work for a client who had about 300 or so servers plugged into Zabbix and it was their main monitoring solution. Their core application used Power MTA and we had written quite a few scripts which allowed us to have some very informative visibility into how well the application was running through the Zabbix UI. I'd be happy to share more with you about the environment but I cannot give some details and the client name as there is still an NDA.RHCE, author of zbxapi

I also know of one very specific incident regarding a Zabbix deployment. This story was told to me by someone who knew about the project. I'm sorry but for confidentiality reasons I cannot reveal anything about who the person is or who the company is, except to say it is a Fortune 500 company who's brand is well known almost world wide.
This company needed a network and systems monitoring tool. The network/sysops team (I can't remember the exact team) did their own investigations of various monitoring solutions. They would get one, install it and play with it for a week or two. When appropriate they would talk to the sales team and so forth. Then they stumbled on Zabbix and the team felt it fit most of their requirements the best overall.
In the process of looking at many products some companies tried to do end runs around the team to get their foot in the door, but in the end Zabbbix won out on merit. They did have some concerns regarding support but in the end they were hashed out and dealt with. Since then Zabbix SIA has improved their US customer support offerings.
I do not know the exact number of machines, but I do know this is a large deployment in one of their data centers, with a possible expansion to some others.
I'm sorry this lacks some specifics but when the story was related to me I was amazed that Zabbix won out in pretty much a head to head shootout between about 10 monitoring solutions. Zabbix in my opinion is the most powerful open source monitoring solution.Last edited by nelsonab; 10-02-2010, 16:43.RHCE, author of zbxapi

that's a problem, actually. a lot of very prominent places are using zabbix, but they want to stay silent about it. many are not that secretive, but just do not advertise it in any way. while users page provides some information, it is very, very limited because of the previously mentioned reasons.
so maybe those who would not mind being listed as zabbix users add themselves to some location, like a wiki page ? if there are such organisations, i'd propose a page like http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doc/users - if your company is using zabbix, but is not listed on the homepage, go there, create the page.
add information about the company, and if you feel like it, what it does, how big zabbix setup is etc.Comment

I can also know there are a few financial institutions in Europe which use Zabbix for their systems monitoring.
With regards to the company I mentioned above and it may well likely be the same for many others, they do not want their brand to be used in a manner which they cannot have control. They also don't want to say "we use product X" and then open themselves up for potential lawsuit liability for whatever reason. Yes people are that paranoid about lawsuits in the US.RHCE, author of zbxapi
