Hi Guys

Would it be possible to incorporate a live chat box into the Dashboard? We have quite a few engineers across multiple sites, and I thought it would be quite useful to have a chat style box available. I know Zabbix supports Jabber, but unfortunately the systems here are very locked down and the support team cannot open any ports for me.

If there is anything like this already, please let me know, otherwise, anyone who has any suggestions on how this can be done would come in very handy.

You could use something like http://www.phpfreechat.net/ (never used it but there seems to be a bunch of php chat apps out there). Then you could either create a screen with an iframe or modify the dashboard directly to include an iframe pointing to this app.

Actually...

The latest release (1.8.3) has a new feature - GUI Messaging, although it's not related to messaging between users but for notifications, IMHO, suggesting to add such functionality might be a good idea.

Those "wall" or "talk"-like messages from the console era come to mind...

I agree with Sparky, it could be great if a chat box may be incorporated into the zabbix frontend.

Maybe we could create a ZBX-NEXT request ?

Glad to see there are others who would find this addition useful. I'll put a feature request through and lets see where it goes.

incorporating external thing like tchat in zabbix is simply breaking the KISS principle. Simply use a jabber server and client instead and keep zabbix focussed on what it do the best: monitoring.

If we start like this we will end with a collaboraton suite instead of a monitoring tool..
