    Grid Control vs Zabbix

    Hi,

    Does anyone also has experience with Grid Control?
    It's very useful for the monitoring of oracle DB's, but what
    are the pro's and contra's of both zabbix and gc?

    RE: Grid Control versus Zabbix

    Hello -

    I actually work for Oracle, and have deployed Grid Control 10g for a medium-size client. It works very well for some tasks, and has some room to improve on others.

    I have not used Zabbix, and am curious about your question also. Does anyone on this forum use Zabbix for Oracle database monitoring?

      I don't monitor Oracle DB with Zabbix. However, its seems that a few people do it.
      You can search this forum for Orabbix.

      Hope this helps,
      JBo

        Hi,

        Hi,

        We use Zabbix to monitor several Oracle DB's (W/ RAC), over using grid control (altho grid control is used still in our env.)

        The main reason we chose Zabbix to be the mainstay of our Oracle monitoring was its degree of customisation and options, along with responses and automated maintenance (remote commands based on triggers etc.)

        Orabbix is very simple to set up and intergrate into your Zabbix instance and highly recommend giving it a go. We have incoporated many of our own specific queries and items and have found it extremely useful.

        Be warned tho, the install instructions for Orabbix call for a GRANT ALL. It seems to be written assuming you are configuring Orabbix at a point where your DB has been created and not fleshed with user data that you may not want Zabbix to see.

        Cheers,

        JC

          True but you can
          REVOKE SELECT ANY TABLE FROM ZABBIX;
          GRANT SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE to ZABBIX;

          this should work I will update the documentation
