    network monitoring using Zabbix

    Dear friends,

Can anyone suggest me if Zabbix can be used for active network performance monitoring or not?? what I mean by network performance monitoring is, whether it is capable of monitoring the packets (udp/tcp)flow, bottlenecks in the network, router, gateway, ip packets analysis, network bandwidth use monitoring etc.

If zabbix supports these features and somebody has already implemented this then please guide me and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

If you are looking for a 100% solution for all of the items you have listed out of the box Zabbix is not that 100% fit, however you can get some of your bigger ticket items done. Zabbix can handle almost any kind of SNMP data. Most network devices provide SNMP data points, this is often how you derive bandwidth used on a particular port. As for Packet level statistics you will need to do some extra work for that. At one point I write an agent to do the packet sniffing and then report it back to Zabbix. One of the best Open Source programs for this is nTop, however it is very difficult to import the data into Zabbix.
