    whole group item graphing

    hi,

i face more and more the same need so i share this idea with you:

I need to graph a ressource for a complete group of server to see if one is below or higher than the group. for exemple lets say i have a physical server with 10 virtual instances and i want to see a graph with memory usage of all the virtual server in one graph. The issue here is that if i add or remove a virtual server i must go change the graph by hand. In a constantly moving virtual setup this is quite impossible to maintain.

The feature that would be handy would be a group graph feature. You choose a group and an item . Zabbix would automaticaly build a graph with all the host that have this item on one graph choosing random colors for each one.

There could be some added thing like graphing the avergae of all those items. This would make group monitoring very visualy easy.

What do you think of this ?

    regards,
    Ghislain.
    Regards,
    Ghislain.

I can also see the API being useful for this. You would create a script which would recreate the graph you have for your hosts based on the membership of a host group.

yes API can surely be used to get something similar. howerver i feel this kind of needs is what i would call "basic" need so it feels like it should be in the system for everyone to use.

You know whenever you have more than 2 servers it seems natural to me to want a graph with all this group's ram usage or cpu to see if one deviate from the average and if i need to see what is going on. This would make it very very easy to spot issue in a group.

Perhaps if there was a new graph type, group graph which worked i a similar way to the aggregation functions. To set up a graph you specify a group and the item type. The graph would then plot all of those items for that host group, the legend might just show host names, and no min/max/ave values.

Gaphings groups of devices for a given (one or more items)

Selecting Graphs to display for a given group of devices and showing one or more items that are part of the group is very useful.

This is basic functionality for data historians, where one or more items can be selected to be graphed for multiple hosts or groups of hosts.
                  Other valuable graphing features:
                  • Select one or more items for display
                  • time shift items so that they line up (ex. motor startup, pump start, etc)
                  • possibility to stack graphs horizontaly (not additive stacking, but as if you had 3 seperate graphs one on top of another)
                  • hiding or showing hosts, items from the graph (generate the graph or have some HTML5 magic creating the graph)

If you open a tracker for this, you will get my vote. This should be part of the front-end as basic functionality for configured graphs or ad-hoc graphing.
