I am working my way through the Zabbix 1.8 book and have installed Zabbix twice. I am not a system admin by trade and I am new to Zabbix and monitoring in general.
First, I must say, whether I install from packages (Ubuntu) or source (as the book suggests), it is obvious to me the Zabbix team has put a great deal of thought and effort into making this a smooth process. Thank you.
The only problem in terms of setup that I have encountered so far is that I have no simple way to test my email setup. Zabbix provides a nifty install wizard for the database, php.ini settings and such, but not a email server.
I suggest a simple feature that allows me to send an email directly from the Zabbix interface for testing purposes. Right now I am reduced to fiddling with my triggers, waiting and hoping it works. Since I am not familiar with email servers this has been very frustrating.
If anyone can point me to a Zabbix/Email setup and test tutorial in the meantime, I would me most appreciative!
Best Regards
