Hi all.
We currently use Zabbix to monitor more than 100 servers and this is increasing. Currently I have 3 zabbix servers in different geographic locations all running 1.8.10-r1.
One thing that I really miss is a short comment or description field to be able to tie to a device or host. As we have nearly 1000 servers in the organisation, we've had to implement a sane host naming scheme that fits location and not necessarily purpose.
My ideas for the field in:
- A short text enterable by the user OR obtainable from Active Directory. (I can't find an LDAP query for this yet, but an LDAP guru might think of something).
- It would be useful in notification email as a MACRO.
- (Optionally) a popover on screens or "overview" view (IT managers have read-only access to these screens, but don't necessarily know what each server does. Works similarly to the dashboard view and the proplems popup.
I used to put this in the zabbix "name" field, but have had to change this to lowercase FQDN, so I can use some external zabbix sender items.
Hope this might be worthwhile.
