    Visible data

    Hi chaps,

I am looking at using the Zabbix web portal as a way of providing managed service clients a window into general performance information, and uptime of course, of their services and servers.

However, concerns have been expressed that even the basic 'read' access to the hosts or host groups gives more insight into so stuff than is necessarily required/desired for some clientele and I was wondering if anyone has had experience (or if it’s even possible) to limit the security or accessibility to certain elements of the dashboards beyond the default.

Best example I can give is Creating an account that would allow people to log in, access the dashboard, view screens and maps, but not be able to access the SLA reports section, or maybe the 'latest data' tab.

Some may be wondering why you would want to do this, but work in managed services for a number of years and you will come to know that with some clients, too much information is dangerous

Dont know if I am making enough sense, pls let me know if I am being confusing.

    Thanks!

I don't believe this is catered for in Zabbix.

Perhaps you could use Zabbix internally, and either write a new "simple" front end for clients, or butcher the existing one, ie delete the PHP files for the sections you don't want them to see and edit the existing menus to remove the links. It's a lot easier to a modify a PHP GUI than many others!

      Thanks for the reply Troff,

I had figured that this would be the case, but thought I'd pose the question anyway. Looks like theres some mechanisms to get a login page handoff happening once a user authenticates and can maybe spin off a slightly 'customised' page..... I shall begin the dig!

      Again, thanks for the reply.
