    Estimate of Oracle database connections

I'm evaluating Zabbix for our production environment of approximately 700 servers. We will most likely be using Oracle for our DB. Has anyone had any issues with exceeding max database sessions while collecting metrics for this many devices? Is there a rule of thumb for estimating how many database connections you will likely use up?

Also, if there is a best practice document somewhere for using Oracle database as the backend, please provide a link. I'd like to make sure database requirements are discussed with DBA first before we have any surprises!

    Much appreciated,

    Jake

My company has done some testing with Oracle as the DB. We initially ran into problems with the front-end creating too many connections. I originally reported the problem in the forums - https://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36846. Also, the installation instructions for importing DB into Oracle were incorrect at the time. Consider doing extensive usability testing of Zabbix with Oracle before you jump into it. Consider increasing Oracle max sessions and processes and modifying oci8 parameters in the php.ini file.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your response. Do you remember the number of max sessions you had available in your Oracle instance prior to reaching capacity? Our Oracle instance would have close to 500.

I remember after increasing max to about 250 it seemed pretty stable. We haven't done further testing since.
