    Zabbix for network devices

    Goodmorning
my company is interested in using zabbix to monitor network devices (mainly only switches, as routers are controlled at headquarters). I wanted to ask if with Zabbix it's possible to install, perhaps one for each location, a server, in order to allow the on-site personnel to monitor their own devices. Thank you, noc1123

Option 1 - absolutely standalone installation for each location
Option 2 - proxy in each location and one server in HQ (All collected data and processing would be on the server, proxy serves just as a data relay)

I recommend option 2 that way you only have a single management construct and all your template changes/updates affect all your locations.
You would then also set all your network devices to trap to the zabbix proxy server as your logical local entity which will relay everything back to the master server running the frontend web-ui/db

I'm use 1 installation of zabbix server for the same situation, because zabbix's traffic (for pinging and temperature and proc) is so little. My network looks like 1 big-domen and 20 small-domens connected to big-domen by various channels (2,4,6,10 Mbps) and traffic like 100 kbps for all devices summary.

I recommend option 2, as well.
Depending on the number of devices/interfaces you could use sqlite as the database engine.

This will simplify an update to the next version a lot compared to another database engine.
Just replace the old version with the new one and you are set. No update to the DB schema
          and data required.
You should check the release notes for 4.0 if the DB is still created on startup if it's missing.

We use those kind of proxies for years now and got no problems with that, at all.

          Kind regards
          Norbert
