Sorry to say, but I find the new "time period selector" in Zabbix 4 difficult to use. Instead of some easy-to-find buttons (like 1d, 1w, 12h, etc. and the horizontal scroll buttons) you have to read a lengthy description (a 2-dimensional array listing items like "day before yesterday", "today so far") to find the right item to click. Its not intuitive to use. My first thought was that the graphs didn't work due to some bad cookies being set from the old version, but then I saw that this is as documented. :-(

Back in the days before 4.0 was here people were complaining about the visualization, how "stone age" the graphs are, how unusable the old time slider was blardy blardy blar. They were unstoppable in pointing out how cool and ahead of time the Grafana graphs were, so easy, so ad-hoc, unicorns and rainbows.
Now Zabbix developers took it seriously and redesigned the time selector as the users told was the coolest way to have. And then they get feedback that it is again difficult to use and how awesome the old time slider was.
Don't worry, it may be just a matter of few days to get used to the new selector. I've been using it for some time already and the only complaint about it is https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBXNEXT-4830

No worries. I was just sarcastic about the topic. I think the new time selector is here to stay, just takes a short while to get used to it, as with every change that happens in a user interface.
But regarding features it is not the forum which decides what and how is going to be implemented.Comment

Maybe the "compressed" version of the time selector could be extended? You click on the magic button, and the time selector shows just a line of small icons to press, next to "[<] [zoom out] [>]" . Some music player apps for your desktop have a similar feature. This could help to avoid the large blank area on the left side of the time selector.
I am surely missing the scroll bar. That was so easy to navigate. I don't care what other monitoring solutions implement.Comment

Just popping in to show some support for the OP; I've just upgraded and I must admit, I really don't like the new date selector. Don't get me wrong, it's not a deal breaker obviously, but from now every time I navigate 4.0 I'm going to be annoyed and thinking how much I loved the old system - one of the attractive features for me - and how I can't stand this new approach. It'll "grate" on me, but I'll push through, don't worry
. Future tip though - maybe provide old and new when doing an upgrade, so people can keep the old approach if they preferred it. Ah well, onwards and upwards!

I miss one thing that I have found hard to do using the new selector...
Select a window of time (slice of a day) and if I want to see the same slice yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that etc..
Previously I could select my slice and click 1d back or forward or any other period that was available. Miss that.Comment

Yes I agree with you it is a bit difficult to use this version. Also from the new changes from this tool they made some are good while some are complicated.Last edited by scofficial; 24-08-2019, 12:32.Comment
