Roadmap 1.4: Zabbixserver on Windows- Why?

    Hello,

In the roadmap 1.4, i read about planned support for the zabbixserver running on windows. Just asking: Why? Is there really a demand for this?
To me, the current *inx / Solaris implementations seems to be more than sufficant.

If work is spent on windows, i would focus on the agent side.

    Best regards

This is to address monitoring needs of Windows-only shops. I do not feel huge demand for Windows port, however it is nice to have

      WIndows Zabbix Server

      Hi,

hi agree to Wolfgangs opinion, that there is no need for a windows server really. A clean environemt , where you have only windows boxes does not exist in he most companys.
To bring Zabbix in companys, the admins have to deal with linux.
The documentation for beginners is quite well, but off course the start is not too easy.

The zabbix windows agent runs now stable, a feature I missed ( or did not found) is auto update feature. Alexei did so many updates,
that it was some work to follow with the agents updates.

      Regards
      Gerald

While I will probably continue to run my server on Linux, I know of a lot of places (several of my previous employers) that would love to have Zabbix, but do not have the linux expereince, knowledge to be able to instal, setup and maintain a linux server just for monitoring. I think this will open up a lot more oppurtunites for Zabbix to be implemented.
