Custom widgets for dashboards

Maybe something like this already exists?

Basically it would be nice to be able to create custom queries and then display them with custom UI/graph elements. I assume currently this would mean editing source code? Has anyone ever created their own custom widgets before?

Specifically what I'd like to create is something like the "problem hosts" widget (listing of the *number* of hosts/host groups with problems, but add an additional column with some other logic about the properties of the hosts within those groups i.e. *number* of hosts within that group that start with "AAA", "BBB", "CCC" and so on)

Grafana seems like a large hassle to setup/maintain (a whole separate application, separate User/permission system etc), especially when all I'm after is a tiny modification to an existing widget

I guess nobody has ever created/modified a widget themselves?

I think this would make a good feature addition

I agree that I feel like the widget need to be more extensive, currently very limited. I miss a lot of simple presentations not being offered in the out-of-the-box widget selection.
Wonder why not allow importing of single widgets designed by the community (like templates), This would greatly improve and speed up development and offer a big variety that would fit and be enjoyed by many ! Imagine Zabbix can then pick up on the popular ones and add them to their official that come with the box :-)
