We use zabbix to monitor certain KPIs on our workstations and laptops. Our workstations are all assigned IP addresses via DHCP, some static some not. If a host has disappeared from the network for more than 24 hours their DHCP lease expires and so does the dynamic DNS entry, at which point the host name is no longer resolvable. I think that icmpping should return a 0 if host is not resolvable.
