VMware Discovery with additional Templates

Hi all,

I can not find a answer for my question so I try it here
Why is it not possible to add a template to VMware hosts? I mean, is there any technical issue that would break it. I don't want to change IP, name or Macros. Just add a new template.. what is the idea behind read only discovered VMware Hosts?

Can we add this feature? I think I found a feature request before a few years but can not find it anymore...

Those hosts are created by discovery and are based on same rule. Discovery keeps them all similar all the time. If you would add something to them, next time that disco runs, it would be overwritten. Same way as you cannot change triggers or items, which are created by discovery.

You can modify that prototype and add additional template to it, this will affect all hosts, created based on that prototype.

Why zabbix does not provide the option to add other templates to the discovered hosts. I should not be hard to "keep" templates attached to the hosts, that are discovered. I mean i can add additional templates to hosts, that are added by a discovery rule, too.
It would be a huge improvment for me to be able to add templates to VMware hosts. I cant find the link to the feature request anymore, but I think there was one..
Who to talk to about that feature, iI can implement this by my own, but future upgrades will break this, for sure ^^
What is to correct way to start with?

Topic [ZBXNEXT-2088] Allow merging of discovered VM's and data from an installed agent - ZABBIX SUPPORT is what i am looking for.
Zabbix VMware & Agent Monitoring : zabbix (reddit.com) provides a "dirty" workaround. My question: why provide these Hosts as readonly if it is possible to modify their settings and work with them as "normal" hosts?
