    Debian/Ubuntu package with pristine sources?

    Hi,

as I can read thru release notes, it seems that the ZABBIX Devel Team use Debian/Ubuntu as main platform for developing&testing.

If so, why don't you "embed" debian/ubuntu packaging with the ZABBIX pristine sources? This way, you could help all debian/ubuntu users to quickly update their installed base (mainly for stable 1.1.x release branch)?

    Cheers,

I believe the main problem is lack of experience working with RPM and DEB source files and their internal standards. I don't want to substitute Debian maintainers of ZABBIX related packages who do excellent work of maintaining ZABBIX packages already.

Having said this I'm ready to add to ZABBIX distribution anything which may help creation of the packages. I believe we have to ask Debian guys their opinion.

You're perfectly right: you should ask the Debian (and/or Ubuntu) ZABBIX package maintainer if you could integrate some of their changes (up to ~/debian/ ?) to the pristine source ! I'm pretty sure they will be interested in!

        Whilst we're talking about Debian/Ubuntu sources, I don't suppose there's a 1.3 package floating around that I could grab...?

          Ubuntu : http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/s...ll&release=all

          Debian :

apt-get source and dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot are you friends.

1.3 (the beta) not 1.1.3 please

I've got 1.1.3 installed on my Debian box but I'd like a play with 1.3 on a spare box, and as Debian/Ubuntu is their main build environment I wondered if they had a 1.3 debian package floating around that I could test.

              hi alex,

we wont upload development versions of zabbix. if you want to
try them, we have a Branch in our SVN Repository which should
work with the latest 1.3 (beta) release, you can get it from
              there:

              its, however, not tested! Changelog:

prebuild packages (for amd64) and export are available here:

              http://people.debian.org/~abi/zabbix/

and please: if you discover any bugs in this development branch
, report them to me, not the bug tracking system, they dont
              belong there.:
              abi <at> debian <dot> org

this is experimental stuff, dont use it in your production environment

Thanks Michael, I'll take a gander and if I find any bugs I'll drop you an email.

                Regards,

                Alex
