Worth building a server with latest alpha 7 version?

Hi, we're migrating to Rocky Linux 9, and there are features my boss wants in Zabbix 7. We're quite out of date now. I was going to build a new Rocky 9 server and since zabbix 7 is almost here, it makes the most sense to install that. Would it be okay to install alpha 9 now and upgrade it with the first production package when that's out? The old server will still be in service and ideally I'd like the new one to start ingesting data as well as the old one and see how it forwards data to our grafana server.

    Thanks!

I think the answer is "Probably" :-) Many have done it, but it's not guarantied. Worse case is that you might have to toss the beta db and reload the schema, but that is unlikely. Since you are going to send data to both, not much downside.

For immediate deployment and production use, choose version 6.4. Only consider version 7 if new features are critical, as the upgrade path is lengthy.

Thanks. I'll take my chances for now. I am deploying it through a custom Puppet module that I made so even if I have to destroy it and re-image it won't be that big a deal. Hopefully the official 7 will be out soon.

FYI, I don't know if this is something that has be corrected generally or it's just in my case, I had to modify the /etc/nginx/default.d/php.conf file slightly to make it work with my /etc/nginx/nginx.conf file.

The fix was to enclose the file with "Server {}" which I guess means it gets included into the nginx.conf. I'm not much of an nginx expert. I decided to go with nginx this time instead of Apache since it handles php a lot better.

Version 6.4 is recommended for production use and instant deployment. Because of the long upgrading route, version 7 should only be considered if the new features are essential.
