Monitor Huge number of Linux Servers

    Hi

I need a suggestions to monitor my client serves of around 6K in numbers. What is the best update interval to check the items and what is the best checks to go with, Passive or Active checks. I am using a dedicated / physical server with 32 CPU and 128GB of Memory.

    Thanks in Advance.

I would go active and add some proxies also. It may be a bit too much for your one host setup (remember it has to serve all other things also, DB, GUI etc..)

      Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions. Below are few queries about the same.
      1. Will moving the DB to a separate server works?
      2. Since all the agents are in the same network, I need to know the best way to put one or two proxies.

Splitting up the server to different hosts definitely helps. Biggest one should go for DB (I have 16cpus and 128G mem for it), rest of them can be smaller(4cpu-s, 12-16G of mem). If you add proxies, then a lot of resources free up for server to deal with calculations etc. This load is taken over by proxies.
Amount of proxies depends. How much nvps they need to handle. 7-800 nvps per proxy should still be ok.
Active agents take the load from proxies, they gather data and just send it in, Active proxy again, gathers it and sends to server, noone needs to deal with polling, which takes time and resources.

          Thanks for your inputs.
In my case all my agents are in the same network 10.20.x.x. so I decided to add 2 proxies, how can I distribute the load between these 2 proxies.

What version of Zabbix you are using? If v7 then it has proxy load balancing, what you can utilize.. https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...ing/proxies/ha It is also scaleable. If you see that 2 is not enugh, you can just add one to proxy group and load is shared by 3 instead of 2...

With earlier versions, it is up to you how you assign hosts...

              Hi

I am using zabbix version 6.4.

But my major constrain is where to place the proxy in the single network. All agents are in the same plane, if I add proxyies with 6.4 do I need to manually configure agents to connect specific proxy or If I configured agents with both the proxy.

with 6.4 you need to do it manually (or by whatever deployment tool you may have there. 6k hosts cannot be maintained manually anyway.. And with 7.0 you need to have all 7.0 agents also, as HA is supported only starting from v7.
