Add Modbus integration to Zabbix Proxy

Hello!

It would be great having the option to run modbus items towards isolated hosts directly via the proxy using the same native implementation that is available on Agent2.
My usecase is that i have host X, which is only accessible from host Y where i have the proxy installed. It is not possible to install an agent on host X.
Due to this i can't utilize the Modbus implementation in Agent2.

A workaround is to use another host with Agent2 installed, then do the Modbus monitoring through that, but it doesn't feel very clean.

It would indeed be beneficial to have the capability to run Modbus items via a proxy with the same native implementation as Agent2, especially for isolated hosts. Thanks for your input. Really hope this is achievable as well. Would really improve the IoT/OT monitoring in Zabbix. The workaround isn't ideal as you say, because the monitored items would then be added to the wrong host which would be confusing when alarms are raised.

While i'm aware of the issue tracker, my intention was not only to suggest the idea (which this forum category is for, according to the name and description), but also to get a discussion going around the topic. Cluttered issues in the tracker doesn't help anyone.
