    Zabbix v1.1.x and v1.3.x

    Hi Alexei,

From the problems i'm encountered since starting Zabbix about 2 month agos, and taking in account the none solve problem in 1.1.5 and new bugs that didn't exist previously in 1.1.4, i'd liked to ask you just one question :

wouldn't it be better to focus on just ONE release [ 1.3.x/1.4 ] to bring news functionnality and froze the 1.1.x ? v1.4 was roadmapped to january 2007, correct ?

Too much energy seem to be wasted working on both side.

Maybe that's not the reality, but as new 1.1.x versions seem to be even more buggy than previous one...i wonder if the job is not to big

I do not think so. Every stable release has its issue, yet I'm quite confident 1.1.5 is better than 1.1.x (x<5). Anyway you have a choice of using any of 1.1.x, all are backward-forward compatible.

ok, Alexei, but look at all the posts talking about 1.1.5 bugs !

the problem is that we haven't got any patches for problem that may be light to solve [like the truncated macros inside email message ].

Some people using Zabbix produce patches, but we don't know if it's good to put them on our Zabbix server.

Zabbix is [from my point of view] a wonderfull product to monitor IT, but we [the users] need more stability on new release or speed in bug resolution.

That's why you can purchase paid support if you'd like a faster response. Otherwise I've been very impressed for an open source product that Alexei and his team have done such a good job keeping up with the bugs. I've been a zabbix user since May of last year and I know that they do their best to respond to the bugs reported on the forum.

As soon as they can take care of the bugs they will. I already saw a post that Alexei mentioned releasing 1.1.6 this week that would fix at least one of the bugs that was found.

And quite honestly this release appears to have a few more glitches (based on the postings at least) than most of the releases. I'd say most are really stable right off the bat.

not my aim to say that Zabbix is not a good product or Alexei [and his team] bad guys.

From MY view, i saw a lot of people putting a lot of post inside all the different parts of the zabbix forums. That generate a lot of message to read/reply/work on.
Some of them are really needed one [bugs, patchs, ..] and many many others are just questions on howtodo. This difficulty to find to right answer involved the help of too much people, often for the same one.

and why not stopping 1.1.x branch [ may be the 1.1.6 one ] to keep energies on the awaited 1.4.x branch ? just an idea
