Another estimate on Zabbix 1.4 release?

    Hi,

Is there another estimate for the release of 1.4, or do you think it'll make the February release still?

You guys are doing a great job!

I noticed the 1.3.3 release notes mention the 1.4 manaul as well as an upgrade patch for the 1.3.x branch.. so it's gotta be close to ready... right?

Just would like to react about the post of transitv.

It's an open source software, so making this kind of comments are not going to help...

From my point of view, there are only 2 ways to make this going faster:
          - either putting money on the table and work with zabbix SIA to hire more people.
          - help developpers by testing, writing documentation, patches...

Sorry if I came off as ungrateful, I really love the software and fully understand that it is open source and what that entails. I'm more than happy to contribute to the cause where I can (I've posted some of the scripts I've hacked together for controling the software on ubuntu).

What I don't like is when a developer posts a tentative date and then doesn't post a simple update to the status days after it was supposed to be delivered. It makes it really hard for me to sell to my boss to put money into a project that doesn't appear to be going anywhere...

Again, please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to start a flame war, it just "grinds my gears" when a project runs over without any feedback from the developers (open source or not).

I really want the product finished, so I don't mind Alexei spending all his/her time developing/managing the project. But a quick post at least saying the date has slipped again would be nice...

I'm thinking of ZABBIX feature freeeze in March with following testing phase afterwards.

Cool, thanks for the update. I'm sure we're all really looking forward to it.

I have one more quick question. I thought I read somewhere that the beta 1.3.x won't be upgradable to the 1.4 release. Is this true?

currently you have to roll your own upgrades:

There are ppl here (including myself) that are currently running 1.3.x that intend to upgrade to 1.4.0. If Alexei doesn't provide a "blessed" upgrade path then we (I?) will probably post the "use at your own risk cause this is hacked to pieces" upgrade shortly after 1.4.0 is released.

                    To transitv

I understand your point. Sorry I didn't want to offend you, but a lot of people doing this kind of comments are people that don't know how open source works.

Anyway, I am frustrated as you on the way the project is sometimes handles.
I think it's a great product, but it will be much better if there was much more transparency.

I am talking about CVS, documentation, patch integration, release dates...

On my last job, we decided to go Nagios + Oreon because of this view of where the project is going. Even if we choosed to go the enterprise open source way, i.e having a company in board helping us.
