11 - Better monitoring of log files. Something like "tail -f /var/log/fileerror.log |grep ERROR 202" and generate a alert based on this

Actually this capability already exists, just not as intuitive as it should be. Additionally, I am working on extending this capability to gain the ability to combine logs and splunk them within Zabbix. Don't expect to have this ready for at least a couple weeks though.

13 - A Item to ping some host from the client, something like a item with ping, 10.2.2.2 (a cluster interface that zabbix_server can't reach)

This was just added as a requirement where I work, so I will be creating something like this very soon. Will add it to my bulk patch as soon as it is ready. Also note that this is already doable using a system.run / UserParam feature.

All the rest of them are great ideas. Hopefully we get these into the mainline soon.

Network Interface Monitoring

Hi

I agree that all the suggestions are excellent, however one of the most important mentioned was monitoring if the network interface is up or down "14 - A Item to check if network interface is UP or DOWN". We currently monitor in excess of 500 hosts and the area that gives us the most problems is monitoring network interfaces. If Zabbix could include this enhancement it would add enormous value.

Are you referring to ZABBIX agent or SNMP monitoring?

My next suggestion, when using units from menu, is to add next logic to it. Because if zabbix known unit, it should be relatively easy to respect it:

some examples:

- if unit is seconds, do not write k seconds or m seconds, but convert to date style. 2 hours, 34 minutes,..

- if unit is boolean (0 or 1 like icmpping), make better graph support. Showing stright line is nice

but better is to show places where value was 0 (even small amount of time). See service.png.

- Speed should have two units, bitspersecond and bytesperseconds, nothing else. Item should return always natural speed (using multiplier), not kbps or Mbps. Speeds like 1 M kbps is confusing

Hi, not only do I agree but I also think milliseconds should be handled differently too, because ping time is usually in the scale of milliseconds or less. Actually I even contributed a patch for this: http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5952, that prevents the addition of any prefix to the 'ms' unit regardless of the value.

Units handling in config.inc.php should be expanded to handle more cases,
and it'd be nice if all monitoring pages showed units. It is missing for example in the "Monitoring > Latest data > 500 latest values".

I love Zabbix!
I would like to suggest only few things..
First, I would like to have more colors to choose from, when I add items in the graph (i.e. I have 12 web server in load balancing, and if I graph the current connections number all in the same graph, it is quite difficult to see the differences in the colors..)
Second, I think it should be perfect to have a new type of graph, the "bar" one (like performance monitor in windows). In some cases it is easier to read than the line one.
..and finally, I think it should be easier to define actions linked to template.. Sorry if I repeat myself, but at the moment this is the real problem that blocks me to use zabbix as our new monitoring system.....
