    Ipv6

    Hey,

First of all much kudos and thanks to the developers for creating such a great way to monitor servers and workstations.

Now down to business. I am interested in using IPV6 with Zabbix. Are there any plans to implement IPV6 support?

Is there a threshold of IPV6 requests which would need to be met for this to happen? Are we anyway near reaching such a threshold at this point in time?

    Thanks in advance.

    John.

Thanks. Currently we have no plans of implementing support of IPv6. Honestly I do not feel adequate demand for this functionality. It won't be very straight- forward though because of lack of good IPv6 knowledge and IPv6-enabled equipment.

Yes well I can understand the "lack of knowledge". From what I have seen trying to implement it myself, information is sketchy.

To anyone else who might want IPV6 make sure to register your interest on the forums so that Alexei gets an accurate picture of demand.

Another way to look at it is if Zabbix has IPV6 support before Nagios it will be a boon for this project and a good way to get Zabbix into more news stories.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my query Alexei. I appreciate that you must be a very busy man.

I agree, theoretically Any new functionality (even if it is already supported by alternative software) adds some advantage to the product. IPv6 is important for one maybe two percent of users. I just cannot afford to spend time and resources on something which would require expensive (time-wise) development and maintenance. I would rather invest this time to more anticipated functionality.
