Would you please enhance zabbix to include a module that would perhaps not use any database system but rely on the OS itself, or rather shall I say something to monitor the one machine alone and not a network as a whole, I wonder if this could be developed in C, I would like to write this myself but my C is not so fluent yet, the reason for me to ask for it to be done on C is that it could then not rely on the database modules it works hand in hand with.
Scenario: I have a linux box running a basic iptables service. If at all one of the services on the box goes offline or for whatever reason it fails (eg. openVPN dies) I want to be alerted by e-mail and be able to set the agent (modified-zabbix) to restart the service while I am away.
So basically I am thinking of something that will be able to restart services and make sure that the services are always up at all times whilst sending alerts to the administrator.
I would be so grateful if you could help the community by writing this improvement and if at all you would like to include me in the development process I would be honored although I might not have as great skills as your own to contribute but where I can I would.
Thank you for a revolutionary service.
