Different range for a same graph

    Sugestion :

Example : You're looking to check if 2 monitored items are up (ftp and ssh for examle. if ssh is up, the return value is 1). But if all of this 2 items are up or down the graph draw only a mixed line without distinction...

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Yes, obviously the graph will show you only one line. This is absolutely correct. I do not see how this can be improved. Please, advise.

      Graph Range

Same example : ssh and ftp up

Case one : ssh and ftp are up together.

The graph display a mixed line ------- but I'm unable to distinct ssh or ftp line because all value are equal to 1 and the range of the graph is the same for all.

Same problems when ftp and ssh are down.

If the range graph is different for ftp, for example, I'll able to see 2 distincts lines

This cannot be fixed. Although you can use different colors for different items!

I hope this may solve your problem!

          Alexei,

I, too, had a similar idea. As you know, when you have a graph showing availability for like 5 hosts, and 2 are down, 3 up, you only see two lines, and don't exactly know which ones are up and which are down.

My suggestion (which is also the idea of the original poster as far as I understand it), is to add an option for the graph for an optional added value. that way for example I could say add 0.1 to host 1 to the graph, 0.2 to host 2, and so on. Now we would have an extra line for each host, no matter if they're up or down.

This is just one example of how to solve that, other ways will work just as well, as long as the end result is different absolute values/lines per monitored host.

          regards,

          tom.

Re: Different range for a same graph

This effort could be easily done if Alexey invented the custom multiplier for an item, as it was probably promised for 1.1.

Having this I would immediately achieve the 2 long awaited things.

First is the custom multiplier for data I get over snmp from my windows boxes. Things like disk space and memory size are reported in units, and the unit size is in separate OID. So now I must use a snmp-proxy host, which grabs 2 items from windows box, multiplies them and reports. It works, but I have two nasty side effects. It works slower and gives many timeouts, plus an actual data is linked to the snmp-proxy host, not to the real one.

If I could have a custom multiplier, I would just enter it for the snmp item of a given windows box and that is it! Can't just wait for it

Ok, second thing is what you was asking for: I would have SSH as 1, FTP as 2, POP3 as 3, IMAP4 as 4 and so on. Imagine what that gives?

              hi,

a multiplier would not solve it all... as when multiple services are down, they're all at 0, and 0 multiplied by x still remains zero and ergo one line only. So the best solution would be to have both an optional multiplier and offset, with default values being 1 for the multiplier and 0 for the offset (so graphs behave like they do now by default).

                Multipier or offset?

The multiplier plus offset will be useless. You may try to draw several and see

So, I would suggest to use either an multiplier (for those who like me looks for cuts in a graph), or an offset, for those who prefer to loook at strobe graph (like this: ''''''|____|'''''' and so on). But not both of em.

The last word is of Alexey

BTW, did anybody noticed what are medical graphs in hospitals' equipments like? I thing they are multiplied, because it seems to me that zero for all monitored threads is the same.

PS. Wow, there is the idea even crazier: to make a custom color for an item in the graph, as it comes for a link in the network map
