the idea of active agents is very fine, i have some additional ideas for this theme:
1) Storing collected data even if agentd could not deliver it to the server.
After the Server is online again, agentd should send all collected data.
2) It would be usefull to start collecting data even if zabbix_server is not reachable at starting time of the agentd.
3) Idea of a Proxy-agent.
For firewalled systems it would be usefull to install a proxy-agent on one from outside reachable server which tunnels communications to and from the other agents in the network.
(Currently i make this with a lot of ssh-tunnels but its very difficult to manage)
It also could collect data from his slave-agents if the server is not reachable.
Also nice, if this proxy-agents could make the evaulations of the triggers and make some email- or sms-notifications (in offline-mode only)
