exporting/importing hosts with proper template linkage

has anybody managed to export/import hosts while keeping a proper template linkage status ?
exported hosts have no reference to the linked templates, so it is either unsupported, or there just isn't a place to find the syntax.

how do people add several hundreds of hosts without scripting import files ?
scripting the db directly might be possible, but given the complexities of linked item specification, that could as well brek the db nicely.

that sounds great, it's a quite important missing thing when a lot of hosts are involved.
i don't see anything relevant on http://www.zabbix.com/next.php, i guess it is considered to be too small an issue to list on a roadmap ?

to be fair, i didn't understand the relevance of the previous commit
as for the backups, i have tried to distinguish between config/data tables in zabbix db and backup them separately, but it is somewhat hard to do because some tables contain both config & data, and there is no documentation about them.
but - that's offtopic, this thread is about template linkage in host import/export

For me, the worst part is (and yes technically its the same thing) that if you have templates linked to other templates, there is no proper way to backup your templates also.

              [1.5] XML export/import - changes

              Hi

there are some advances in the 1.5 (first beta) version.
The export now creates another part "<templates> ... </templates>" containing all templates.

So far so good, but the import is not yet OK.
For each (sub-)template it says "access denied".

              But, there is hope.

              Regards

              Norbert.
