    A new interface?

    Hi,

I'm cautiously looking into making a new web ui, at least for parts of Zabbix. I've been brainstorming for about an hour and made the simple mock-up attached below.

Any web interface for Zabbix has to have quite a lot of functions, and it's not easy to make things user friendly. But we can try. Another problem is that the data structures of Zabbix aren't flat or tree-like, and that trying to shoe-horn them into such structures isn't necessarily a good thing.

I'd appreciate comments, although I'm obviously only brainstorming at this point.

I like that layout you created, but honestly I don't know if I would have a use for it. But that may just be me.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? What parts do you think could use improvement?

Just curious and thought I would pitch in my 2 cents.

It looks nice for a couple of hosts and items.

@cstackpole: I'm basically trying to see if this kind of interface is possible. What the pros and cons are. I find the current interface a bit tedious, with lots of clicks and not much overview.

@Alexei: You're right, with many hosts this strategy may not be any better than simple lists. But maybe it's worth a shot. Perhaps a partial ui like this can be helpful for certain tasks.

          Well...

Let me just say that imho, the old web interface should have a remake with ajax - first!

Then, maaaybe, after some serious UI and usability decisions made, a completely new UI can be designed.

          P.S.
The window focus stealing feature in Firefox is just annoying!
