    Zabbix 1.6 update?

    Zabbix folk,

I was wondering if there is any update on the 1.6 front? I check the development status regularly, and it hasn't been updated for a long time. It also still says the release is expected 'probably in march 2008'.

Could some-one give us a quick update as to the state of play with 1.6?

    Thanks.

I heard a rumor they're waiting for it to be as good as Duke Nukem Forever....

Either that or Alexei is busy with his TPS reports...

I think that any update in this regards would be posted on the 1.6 progress page if Alexei had a date. Also i think that the chance to get an answer is greatly reduced by the number of ! or ? at the end of your sentence

We hope it would be soon but anyone can help make this happen quicker by helping the dev team to close the release blocker. I know we are all really waiting for the 1.6 release but as most open source project it goes out when it is ready and sooner if people help

          regards,
          Ghislain.

I appreciate that's the nature of open source software, and i'm quite prepeared for 'it's ready when it's ready' - I was just after a vague update as to whats happening
Something like 'still loads to do - minimum 6 months', or 'one showstopper left to fix - about a week' would be great.

There is the status page - which is good - but hasn't been upated in about 6 months. I'm sure things must've moved on some by then....

What is this release blocker? If it's something i can help with, I'm keen to! Is there somewhere we can read about development status in this detail? If i could see that there was one bug stopping release, I'd definately help out wherever possible.

The problems we're seeing aren't caused by the open source model, but by the project management decisions made by the Zabbix crew.

Earlier today I almost opened a bug about "The zabbix_user and zabbix_developer processes aren't communicating, but all ports seem open.", but didn't. I'm sure the developers know very well that the situation isn't good and that they're working to improve matters.

I'm also curious about the status, I understand no date but it says on the status page that it'll be updated weekly which is hardly the case (unless there has been no forward pointing movement for the last months)

To those following this thread - i just checked the developer section of the website, and from there I quote:

"ZABBIX v1.6 will be released on 18 September 2008."

                      Cool.
