    Help in email debugging

    Hi All,

    According to my Action logs, emails are being sent but I never see them. I tried turning up logging levels to try to find out whats happening but I don't get anything. How can I continue to look at this?

    Thanks,

    If you go to the administration tab, and click on media types, then email, this will give you your smtp settings. Then telnet to that smtp address over port 25, and test to make sure the smtp server is working. That's the first step I would do.

    To manually send an email via command line smtp, follow this script
    telnet <server> 25
    helo <SMTP helo>
    MAIL FROM: <SMTP email>
    RCPT TO: <[email protected]>
    DATA
    <type message here>
    . (this needs to be on a line by itself
    wait for the message 250 "Message accepted for delivery"
    QUIT

    If this fails at any point, post the results.

      This passes, so that explains why zabbix thinks they are sending alerts fine. but it gave me a clue. Usually, our SMTP server requires a log in and password before passing mail but there seems to be no way to configure that. I bet thats what the problem is. How can I get Zabbix to do SMTP login sequence?

      I am going to search the forums for that, but feel free to post the instructions in this thread.

        External script is going to be your only way for now. I haven't written one yet, but I know others have for SMS and other means of notification. Look for something like "external script notify".
