Autodiscovery - Add Host by IP Address

    Hello,

We have a Network 192.168.1.x with a DHCP Server. But some Clients dont login every 24 Hours (our DHCP Lease Time), so they get sometimes another IP Address.

Because its a Domain, we have created a Login Script which installs the Agent on the Clients. I have Configured that the Discovery Scans the Net and added an Action which adds the Host to a Group an Link them to the Template Windows.

But the created Host are then all monitred by their IP Address. Is there any Solution do do this by their DNS Name?

Thx and sorry for the really bad English....

DNS name possible as of 1.4.3 I think

    Hey

I had the same request and Alexi added this into 1.4.3 I think I cannot remember where it would populate using the domain name instead of IP.

Read the release ntoes between 1.4.2 and 1.4.3 I think you will find it there

      Hey,

Thx for your help, but i cannot find anything about it in the Changelog. Only "# added automatic resolution of DNS names for auto-discovery" in 1.4.1 to 1.4.2.

I have now upgraded to 1.4.5, but still cannot find how to configure it to use the DNS Name automaticaly.

EDIT: I have found your previous Thread: http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthre...odiscovery+dns

But my Problem is not the same as yours. The Names of the hosts are the DNS Names. Thats good. But the Hosts are monitored by their IP Address. The Problem ist, that the next time the IP is another Host, so i have to delete the old one and add the new one. This would not be the Problem, if the Graphs an values weren't deleted too.

This patch might be what you are looking for:

If you setup the discovery check to look for Zabbix agent's "system.uname" parameter then this patch will trust the hostname returned by uname on the box itself rather than trying to do something IP or DNS based.

EDIT: oh, they're windows boxes, i don't know what system.uname is going to give you...
