    Newbie questions about triggers

I have a few questions. I did read the user manual and still not sure about the details of when triggers are assigned to a host.

For instance when I add a new Linux host, I add the host to the Linux group and also add the Linux template. Everything seemed fine but when I get alerts, I get two alerts. I noticed that the triggers are added twice, which is causing two alerts.

My first thought is that the Linux template is assigned when I add server to the Linux group.

1.) Do templates get assigned to host based on group membership?

2.) Are groups nothing more then a way to filter when browsing the web?

3.) Is there an easy way to get rid of the duplicate triggers? (would hate to have to do it manually for each host)

    Hi,

    1) No template were not assigned with group membership
    2) Yes, 'Hosts groups' are only for make filter views
    3) Put triggers in a template !

To see witch triggers are enable on a host:

Thanks for your reply. I however still think I have an issue. My triggers are assigned to a template, and my template is assigned to my monitored host. However I show duplicates for all triggers and receive two alerts. I have attached some screen shots for review. Any new host I create gets duplicate triggers and I can not tell figure out why. Any ideas?

      Host: emar9
      Template:Template_Linux

The first screen shot shows duplicate triggers for emar9

The second screen shot shows single items for emar9

The third screen shot shows single triggers for Template_Linux

        Hi,

Go on your host "emar9", on "Link with Template" click
on "Unlink and Clear" Click "ok".

Return on the host "Link with Template" and add "Template_Linux",

-> It must correct that duplicate entries.

        Regards,
        Pierre.

I performed the above tasks and still have the duplicate trigger problem. Please see attached screen shot of multiple triggers being added. I also verified again that there are not duplicate triggers assigned to Linux_template. Thanks again for all your help!

            Hi,

Strange thinks; it's perhaps your template corrupt because in screen capture; adding lines was duplicated !!!
Normaly you should have only one line !!!!
            Code:
'Added Trigger Too many process [....] to host 'emar9'
'Added Trigger Too many process [....] to host 'emar9'
What is the full content of 'Template_Linux' Triggers screen; no duplicate lines ??

            Regards,
            Pierre

There are no duplicate lines in the Linux_Template. Not sure how they are getting added to the host....

So, i don't understand why template was applied twice ....

When you remove your template with "Unlink and Clear" et make "OK",
zabbix remove all items and all triggers ?? Have you verified before
re-apply template ? (Verify Items and Triggers was empty).

                    Regards,

Yes I have verified that no triggers exist before linking to the template. I was using host emar9 and linux_template as an example, but this occurs to any template assigned to any host. I think there is a problem at this point and not a user error. I attached a screen shoot of removing templates from host emar9. You can see that it removes the duplicate triggers.

                        Corrupt database ?
                        Remove and re-creating host ?

                        No more idea...

                        -> Alexei ?

Hopefully its not the database, but removing and re-creating the host does not fix the problem. This problem occurs for any new host I add and with any template that I link. Just for some background information, its Zabbix version 1.4.2 with a mysql back end running on Ubuntu server. Thanks for all your help.

Perhaps upgrading to 1.4.3 resolve your problem ?
