    Steps taken:
I copied the 1.5.3 source code and compiled only with --enable-agent. Then copied the zabbix_agentd.conf file, changed the hostname and commented the Listen directive in. Starting zabbix_agentd on second outward host.

After that I created a new host in the webfrontend, and after a few seconds the first data was coming in.
(There was some settings with the firewall to allow agentd..)

The setup of hosts in the webfrontend are all using DNS name as source, no IP given. Only inside Zabbixconfs are using IP's.

Seems to me your second setup is not quite right. Can you post your config file?

      Your welcome

I also love zabbix very much. Maybe you can tell me how you set up your action that you don't get flodded when 24 reconnects coming up. I be busy with work next weeks so don't have that much time to fiddle.

        you are right :-)
        one last question:
        in /etc/agents*confs
        the mysql part ...
i set this to user root with mysql root pass - is that secure enough?
both confs have read only for zabbix ...

!!!Using root is almost never secure!!!

You can just do anything. As long as you have the rights for the root-mysql-user like from a normal insallation

Better create a new user that only has access to one db. It's just a good pratice.

As you are using mysqladmin to gather mysql data you can just create a new user like that, change agentd.conf an you should be set.

              Code:
              Insert into mysql.user set host="localhost", user = "status";
              Worked for me when querying

              Code:
              mysqladmin -u status status
