    Escalation sending continous email

    Hi,

I'm start to be a little bit lost with escalation.

    The configuration:
    -Debian Lenny (stable)
    -Mysql 5.0
-Zabbix server 1.6.2 compile from source

    The goal:
-Setting up a new Zabbix 1.6.2 with escalation to send notice every X minutes until someone take care of it

    The problem:
-The escalation get stuck on some event and keep sending email every X minutes, but work correctly for some other events.

    What happen:
-Testing the escalation with a simple check ( the number of process of pico running on a server) works fine...
    -Configuring a first "live" server
    -The monitored server was rebooted
    -Many triggers goes on
-I'm start receiving email at every 5 minutes
    -The server come back online
    -All alert stop except one
-Still receiving email but only for 1 trigger (Server servername is unreachable: PROBLEM
    )

    What I have try:
    -disable/enable the action
    -restart zabbix_server
-let zabbix_server close for few minutes
(When the service was down, no email was send)

    What I want:
I want to understand what is going on, how to solve the current issue and how to prevent future issues.

    Now some data/screenshot...

    Mysql:

    Action (step 1-1 is useless):

    Lastest data:

    Overview/trigger:

    Thanks in advance,
    François

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Upgraded from 1.4.5 to 1.6 to 1.6.2. I haven't done extensive testing yet but I have restarted zabbix_server and reconfigured the escalation action many different ways. Interestingly I get 2-3 emails per minute even though I have period set to 600 seconds. I've tried with and without Trigger value = "PROBLEM". Nothing useful in the logs.

      Hi,

I have solved my problem... I'm not sure exactly how ...

But I have notice something that could probably help you:

      Situation:
1 hosts linked with 1 template

If for example, your template is monitoring for syslog-ng and you don't have syslog-ng on host1 you have to disable the items AND the triggers.

If you just disable the items, the triggers will not appear in the dashboard but you will probably received some emails.

I'm still not sure if it exactly that but now that I disabled both items and triggers I don't have this problem any more.

      Hope this will help,
      François

In my case the trigger and item that I'm getting notifications for is valid and should remain enabled. I even tried disabling the entire action and I'm still receiving the emails, now with this message:

NOTE: Escalation cancelled: Action 'XXX' disabled.

My inbox is overflowing...guess I'll try deleting the action entirely.

EDIT: I received 8 messages like the above and they finally stopped. I re-enabled the action and so far no new messages. I'll report back if it looks like it's working properly.
