Zabbix server 1.6.2 problem with item not supported refresh interval.

Hi there,

I noticed something strange after I upgraded from 1.6.1 to 1.6.2.
When an item is not supported on a host zabbix_server 1.6.2 retries every 10 minutes like this:

It looks like the parameter in Configuration/General/other/Refresh unsupported items (in sec) is not taken into account (currently set to 600s which was the default). I confirm that zabbix_server 1.6.1 does not exhibits the same behavior. Zabbix is still working but zabbix_server.log is feeling up and rotating real quick now.

Anybody else experienced that?

But since it appears with 1.6.2 it means that previously 1.6.1 was not using the parameters set in the front end?

It does, from what I see in my log files.

Well zabbix_server 1.6.1 checks unsupported items every 10 minutes. That's also the default value I have in my UI. Don't know whether the value from the UI/DB is used though. I've never checked it.

For me the behavior is different. I compiled zabbix_server 1.6.1 and 1.6.2 with same options. If I run 1.6.1 for a while there is no "unsupported items" activity in the log. If I run 1.6.2 there is such activity. The settings in the UI remains the same all the time.
It's not a big deal for 1.6.2 seems to behave correctly and take the UI parameter into account. When I set the UI parameters to 0 to disable refresh of unsupported items zabbix_server complies. For me it's alright.

I don't have the 'Not supported by ZABBIX agent' logs but I have logs like:

- 1710xx : ... item became unsupported on host
- 1720xx : .... item became supported

So zabbix_server (1.6.1) is checking at least every 10 minutes.

I checked it out too and here is what I found:
With 1.6.1 I had entries "item became supported/unsupported on host" only for itme type SNMP, not for item type ZABBIX agent.
With 1.6.2 I have entries "error: Not supported by ZABBIX agent" in the log for type ZABBIX agent also.
Same for you Calimero?
I don't know if it's worth digging further as the behavior of 1.6.2 seems fine.

For me no problem with 1.6.2 so far except this difference in behavior but I would say it is rather an improvement than an annoyance. The load on the server looks more or less the same as in 1.6.1.
