Bulk alerts sending speed (problems in spooler)

    Hello everyone,

We are running Zabbix 1.4.6 on Debian.
We use a local Exim server for mail delivery, and we use Clickatel for SMS delivery.

Whenever the system has many triggers set to on, and should send alerts as actions, the alerts are received over a very long period of time.
For example a couple of weeks ago we have a major issue that was followed by 500 actions (alerts to many people, by email and SMS).
In the trigger log of Zabbix we see that all triggers finished changing in a period of about 5 minutes, but the SMSs and emails kept arriving even after 50 minutes.

Did anyone bump into such a problem before?
Do you know how it can be accelerated for better spooling of alerts?
Do we need an external spooler of some sort in order to free up bottlenecks in Zabbix's sending mechanism?

    Thank you,
