    SNMP errors when upgrading 1.1.4

Hi all, hope someone can give me any help on this matter.

I am trying to upgrade a 1.1.4 zabbix installation to 1.4.6
However when I try to compile:

    server:/tmp/zabbix-1.4.6 # ./configure --enable-server --enable-agent --with-mysql --with-net-snmp=/usr/lib

Everything runs fine until the last error pops up:

    checking for net-snmp-config... /usr/lib

configure: error: Invalid NET-SNMP directory - unable to find net-snmp-config

System currently runs 9.3 with 1.1.4, I have tried all the advice on how to deal with the snmp issue but no luck, someone told me to either upgrade the SuSE installation or to go for Zabbix 1.4.2

Any advice/tips & tricks much appreciated.

first, 1.1 is ancient, 1.4 isn't too recent. considering 1.6 would be suggested.
second, from your post i understand you are using suse 9.3, which itself isn't too recent. i haven't explored what version is available, but it is possible that it's not compatible with zabbix - so, aside from the two suggested versions, you theoretically could compile net-snmp manually. of course, that installation of net-snmp would not be supported by suse.

I tried 1.6.3, and also 1.4.2, same errors as with 1.4.6

Previous upgrades with 1.1.2 till 1.1.4 went flawlessly, apparently this SuSE version has some issues.
I am thinking of upgrading it to 10.0 and see what goes.

What if I would setup a debian stable server, then installk zabbix 1.1.4
Export the mysql dbase from the old Suse server, then upgrade zabbix to 1.4.6 or 1.6.3, would this do the trick?

this has nothing to doth database or upgrading - it's the installed system libraries on your machine.
at the very least, you should have net-snmp-devel package installed.
if that still does not work, you can try installing tcpd-devel and running "export CFLAGS=-lssl" before 'configure'
