I give up - Can't logon at all

Okay, I admit I'm pretty new to Linux, PHP, MYSQL, etc., but this is driving me crazy. I've spent all week trying to get Zabbix (1.6.4) installed and working. I finally thought I had it done, but now I'm really stuck. Everything finally seems to have installed correctly, but I can't logon using any username and password combination. I've tried:

    Admin - no password
Admin - zabbix (thought I read that was the default Admin password in 1.6)

I've googled and searched this site and read the information about editing the db.inc.php file, and I "think" I've done that correctly. My problem is that all of the instructions that I've found for editing this file don't match what my file actually looks like. Granted, I don't know jack about PHP, but it looks simple enough.

Never in my life have I had this much trouble getting something installed and working. I'm about to scrap the whole thing and try something else. Can anyone help?

Login for a fresh install =
    User -Admin
    PW - zabbix

I am not sure what you are editing in the db.inc.php file. I have installed Zabbix countless times and have never touched that file.

I've tried that username and password countless times and it doesn't work.

The threads I've read about editing the db.inc.php file are here, here and here. I realize that they are old, but I've been grasping at straws trying to get this to work.

I've tried everything I can think of and every trick I've read online, but nothing works. I still get the same "ERROR: Login name or password is incorrect".

What OS are you installing the server on and what DB are you using?

If the answer is Ubuntu and MySql, I will gladly send you the install instructions that I use, and you could try and do a fresh install.

If you want to go that route, just send me a private message with your e-mail address and I will get them off to you.

        Jeff

Thank you! Yes, I'm using Ubuntu (latest version) and MySQL.

          PM on the way.

You might try the wiki for installation instructions: http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doku.php?id=howto:index
I had problems on my first install and these instructions helped me out. They provide a little better step-by-step instruction than the official documentation.

That is basically what I sent him, but mine are a bit more detailed.

Those are exactly the instructions that used when I did this the last 6 times I've tried. There are a ton of typos from I can tell. Not being an expert in any of these technologies made it very difficult to figure out what to do when the commands failed. At any rate, by the time I redid this for the 6th time, I followed these instructions to the letter....and it's still not working.

Now I'm going to try the instructions that Jeff just sent me.
