    1.6.4 memory leak?

    Ubuntu 8.0.4
    MySql 5
    Zabbix 1.6.4

    Number of hosts (monitored) 36
    Number of items (monitored) 2151
    Number of triggers (enabled) 551
Required server performance, new values per second 30.4271

The only thing on this ML530 with 4 processors and 7GB of memory is Zabbix. I don't like this downward trend of free memory. Is anyone else seeing this with their 1.6.4 setup?

the only idea i have right now - check that you are really running 1.6.4. zabbix_server --version should show you the effective version. also, have you restarted zabbix_server since upgrade from 1.6.2 (i'm guessing you had that running before, and it had a memleak...)

This is normal behavior for a Linux system.
All unused memory tends to be used by filesystem cache.
You can get more detail with 'free' command. You should see increasing 'buffers' and 'cached' values.

If you want to make sure that zabbix is not leaking, you should check memory usage of 'zabbix_server' process

You might consider looking at "vm.memory.size[available]". A graph of the "vm.memory.size" free, available, cached, and buffers keys will give you a better idea of what is happening. On my system, my "free" memory is always in the singe digits. (It's a commonly confused term and I don't know why it is still called "free" memory. Tradition, I guess. )

it is the VM buffer cache "free list" -- the set of pages that have been not just "cleaned" but actually removed from use and "free"'d (analogous to malloc() and free() in C).

            it is named precisely correctly.

it is also a very useful interview question to see if system engineers understand the basics of how the VM works and how to debug low memory conditions -- although i'm sick and tired of explaining to endless software devs over the years that their boxes have tons of memory and not to panic...

              Hi all !

This might not be the same problem discussed here, but it concerns a memory leak too in zabbix 1.6.4.

(The problem was also discussed here)

I have a Windows 2008 x64 server, and the amount of memory assigned to the zabbix agentd gets insane after a few days

This is a major problem as you can imagine (service restart is needed frequently), I'm hoping there will be a fix soon.

EDIT: This also happens on Windows Server 2008 x86 !

has nothing to do with the issue in this thread -- which is on unix, dealing with the server not the agent, and is not an actual problem.

you might want to start a different thread for your issue, or see if a different thread exists on your issue...

                  snmp package

double check you net-snmp libs - there was definitely a version that leaked memory.

Here is the noob question of the day!

Do I need to recompile zabbix or do anything else after I update my Net-SNMP? I'm trying to determine why my Zabbix-Server memory is increasing so much.

                    Thanks!

I had dozens of W2k8 monitored without any problems...
This might be a problem of agent.exe interaction with commands launched by it
for example : do u use system.run, what .exe are launched by agent, ...
