    simple check icmp not working

    Hi
I have created an item using icmp simple check to monitor a number of devices on the network.

I have a trigger {ICMP-monitoring:icmpping.min(120)}=0 thus if the device is unpingable for the zabbix server for more that 120 sec the trigger will be come active.

This trigger work on my test network fine.
Yet on the production network it does thus the device shows down.

from the command line I can ping the device fine so I know it is up.
If I click on the device on the map and select ping it works and gives a response.
If I click on the device on the map and select trace route I displays nothing just an empty box ..

Why are my devices showing as down ?

    Thanks
    G

I have checked the fire permissions and locations of ping , fping and still no luck get values back from icmpping.

Fixed traceroute problem . the traceroute was in the wrong place for zabbix so I coppied it over and it works now.

Make sure there are no errors in the zabbix_server.log referencing fping6. I complied my Zabbix with IPv6 support and it seems to want to use fping6 even on IPv4 addresses.

I down graded to 1.4.2 and installed via yum .. this resolved the issue :-( .. was hoping for a 1.6.X solution ..

            @ clubbing80s :

            Downgrading to 1.4.2, oh my

I really doubt you have to do that for the icmp simple check to work ! (I never any trouble regarding those checks).

You must have missed something, somewhere. Have you checked the server log's file, as advised ?

There is one big difference between 1.4 and 1.6 regarding the use
              of icmpping:

If you have the new server configuration parameter SourceIP= set
in zabbix_server.conf, fping is called with an additional option -S
which is not included in all patched fping implementations.
This parameter was added in ZABBIX 1.6.

So, check whether you have enabled this parameter in the ZABBIX configuration file and call fping --help
on the commandline to check whether your fping supports the option -S.

Then you'll have to choose: If you don't need the SourceIP= parameter,
just comment it and icmpping should work. If you need SourceIP= then get the right fping package/version.

Is your OS by chance CentOS or RedHat Linux ?

              HTH,

              Norbert.

I just looked and realized I have fping without the -S option and I have 1.6.5. I learn something new every day. thanks.
