    icmpping returns no data

My item that has a key of icmpping does not return any data.
With a debug level of 4 I dont even see zabbix trying to execute fping....

I have fping installed and it accepts the -S option
    I have these permissions

    -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 27776 2008-03-03 20:24 /usr/bin/fping
Its located in the right spot too

    # cat /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf | grep fping
    # Location of fping. Default is /usr/sbin/fping
    # Make sure that fping binary has root permissions and SUID flag set
    FpingLocation=/usr/bin/fping
    zabbix@foo:~$ /usr/bin/fping --help
    /usr/bin/fping: invalid option -- -

    Usage: /usr/bin/fping [options] [targets...]
-a show targets that are alive
    -A show targets by address
-b n amount of ping data to send, in bytes (default 68)
-B f set exponential backoff factor to f
-c n count of pings to send to each target (default 1)
-C n same as -c, report results in verbose format
-e show elapsed time on return packets
-f file read list of targets from a file ( - means stdin) (only if no -g specified)
-g generate target list (only if no -f specified)
(specify the start and end IP in the target list, or supply a IP netmask)
    (ex. /usr/bin/fping -g 192.168.1.0 192.168.1.255 or /usr/bin/fping -g 192.168.1.0/24)
-i n interval between sending ping packets (in millisec) (default 25)
    -l loop sending pings forever
-m ping multiple interfaces on target host
-n show targets by name (-d is equivalent)
-p n interval between ping packets to one target (in millisec)
(in looping and counting modes, default 1000)
    -q quiet (don't show per-target/per-ping results)
-Q n same as -q, but show summary every n seconds
    -r n number of retries (default 3)
    -s print final stats
    -S addr set source address
-t n individual target initial timeout (in millisec) (default 500)
-u show targets that are unreachable
    -v show version
targets list of targets to check (if no -f specified)

    zabbix@foo:~$ /usr/bin/fping -v
    /usr/bin/fping: Version 2.4b2_to $Date: 2002/01/16 00:33:42 $
    /usr/bin/fping: comments to [email protected]

Maybe you need to chown root:zabbix

    From the Zabbix manual P.116

If the utility is missing, has wrong permissions or . . . .ICPM pings (icmpping and icmppingsec) will not be processed.

Run these commands as user ‘root’ in order to setup correct permissions:

    shell> chown root:zabbix /usr/sbin/fping
    shell> chmod 710 /usr/sbin/fping
    shell> chmod ug+s /usr/sbin/fping

      zabbix@foo:~$ ls -la /usr/bin/fping
      -rws--s--- 1 root zabbix 27776 2008-03-03 20:24 /usr/bin/fping

I still dont see zabbix even attempting to execute fping in the zabbix-server logs with Debug set to 4

        zabbix@foo:/app/zabbix/logs$ grep -i "fping" /app/zabbix/logs/zabbix_server.log
        zabbix@foo:/app/zabbix/logs$ grep -i "fping" /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf
        # Location of fping. Default is /usr/sbin/fping
        # Make sure that fping binary has root permissions and SUID flag set
        FpingLocation=/usr/bin/fping
        zabbix@foo:/app/zabbix/logs$ grep -i "DebugLevel" /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf
        DebugLevel=4

There could be something wrong with your 'Item' configuration.

Have a look at this thread, he solved his problem on page 2: http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11799

I just tried to set it to a float. Nogo.

Im just trying to use icmpping.

I would like to say again that I dont have any mention of zabbix even trying to use icmpping or fping in the zabbix_server logs with debug set to 4. Which is bizarre to me.

Another thing, I dont even see any mention of my "Host Availability" icmpping item in the zabbix queue details.

Im starting to think Ive hit a bug....

I just triple checked my hosts and the template to make sure its coming back as "Active" and not "Unsupported" or whatever. and it is.

I have exactly the same version of fping as yours, and don't have any problems. However, mine is in /usr/sbin/ - but that probably doesn't help you.

I found this post, which may be useful. Talks about an fping patch, and using the SourceIP in zabbix_server.conf
