Failed on "Homepage" [1 of 1] Error: couldn't resolve host name

I've been using web monitoring for some time now with no issues, suddenly today for some reason, most of the web checks are coming back with:-

Failed on "Homepage" [1 of 1] Error: couldn't resolve host name

I've checked and the server can both look up the IP address from the name, and i can use curl to get the webpage, both using http:// and not using http://. However in the web checks I'm getting the errors!

27655:20090729:171505 Error doing curl_easy_perform [couldn't resolve host name]
    27655:20090729:171505 In process_step_data(step:Homepage,url:http://www.<hiddenURL>,rsp:0,time:0.000000,speed:0.000000 )

nothing has changed on the server, so I'm pretty confused as to where the error is coming from!

I'm continuing to have this issue!

Most of the time everything works fine, then in spurts we get lots of Web errors, and when i look in the logs:-

Error doing curl_easy_perform [Couldn't resolve host name]

I just tried upgrading to the latest curl today (recompiled zabbix agent/server). And again still getting the errors.

Noone got any idea how to fix this?

It recovers shortly after, but in the meantime it's already sent out alerts.

I really like Zabbix, but I'm getting pressured from the helpdesk to replace it, since they get paged every time there's an issue! I don't want to replace it, but if we can't get this issue resolved, then I'm going to have to.

      Same Problem

      Hi Hugh
Just wondering if you found any solution to this problem.

I have experienced this issue serveral times, thought I had found a fix/hack by hardcoding the URL's & IP's in the /etc/hosts file. Which solved the problem for a couple of months, but all of a sudden the problem has started again. And I can't find a way to resolve it.

      Cheers
      Rob
