Zabbix load vs windows task manager load

    Hello!

On a number of servers (virtual vmware, running zabbix client 1.6.5) i get warnings about high cpu load.
The trigger is set to warn when load15 > 4.

However, if i look at the windows task manager cpu load, i se no big load!?

check the screenshot, which shows a comparision of the windows task manager and the graph from zabbix...

    Am I misunderstanding something here?

First off your comparing CPU utilization (% used) to a calculation that invloves utilization, queue legth and other things. That is like comparing apples to oranges.

Second, its very difficult to use traditional monitoring tools in a VM, because of the timing issues. Any performance counter that uses time calculated on the VM (i.e. percentages or any counter that is "per second") cannot be trusted because in the virtual world a second may not actually be a second.

The best way to get that type of data is to get it from the VM host. I am working on scripts that will pull this data (from VMware ESX\ESXi\vCenter) and put it into ZABBIX. I will post when I am done or at least have something I feel is better that what I currently do.

      Hi!

I realize the cpu meter in windows and the one provided in zabbix are not directly comparable, but I thought there would be some kind of indication in windows when zabbix warns about high cpu useage :-)

But perhaps you are right about that its a VM issue. It seems i do not have the same issue on non VM boxes..

      Thanks for the reply!
For now, cpu metering on those boxes is not that important, so Ill just disable it.

      cheers

Looking forward to that. Thanks for the effort in this area.
