No event triggered when host unreachable

    Hi all,

We've been using Zabbix for some time now. Unfortunately I discovered this morning Zabbix isn't noticing hosts going offline. As far as I know this used to work fine, making it puzzling for me what's wrong.
The last change I remember making is switching from normal checks to active agent checks (see this thread http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13191). The status check however, is still a normal check. I'm wondering if this is the correct mode of operations, because currently I can kill the agent without the server noticing. I fiddled around with different combinations of check types, but haven't been able to get it to work.

I switched on debugging on botht the client and the host, and don't see anything out of ordinary. Everything else is working as it should. Both client and server are 1.6.4.

Anyone with thoughts on this? Thanks!

Do you use special item 'status' ?

If you're relying on active checks/items I would suggest implementing a trigger like agent.ping.nodata(300), with active checks interval set to 60s, to detect whether agent is still alive.

For sensitive items/trigger, you can also add a "|{myhost:active.item.nodata(300)}=1" condition.
