How quickly should updated host informtion, host status, new hosts added should show up in all the screens in zabbix?
Is there any way to check the mysql data base, like to re-index it or to somehow make data read and write access faster.

Depends on the items update interval, but usually as quickly as you can press F5.

There are several threads about database tuning. Sounds like you might need to do some my.cnf tuning. Maybe, even dumping the db and re-importing can compact the db and make it faster.
