    Fsockopen() Error on Dashboard Refresh in 1.8

    I am occasionally getting fsockopen errors when refreshing the Dashboard and the Zabbix Server shows a Running Status of NO. I've checked the zabbix.conf.php file and it looks fine. If I hit the Refresh on the browser it can load just fine for the next few times and then show the error again. Doesn't seem to be a pattern, sometimes it will load fine and sometimes it won't....

    I'm guessing it's a timeout issue of some kind? I'm running PHP 5.2

    This is the error that appears:
    Code:
    Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to localhost:10051 (Connection timed out) in /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/zabbix/include/config.inc.php on line 714
    This is line 714 of config.inc.php
    Code:
    $checkport = fsockopen($ZBX_SERVER, $ZBX_SERVER_PORT, $errnum, $errstr, 2);

    although the fact that you get "no" is another problem.

    basically it's frontend connecting to the server port, so check out why that could timeout

      ZBX-847 says it's for for 1.6.... I'm running 1.8...

      On the refresh where I do not receive any fsockopen errors the Zabbix Server is Running says YES just like it should.

      That's why I'm thinking this has to be a frontend timeout of some kind?

      I should clarify the Zabbix server processes are running at all times, this just seems to be a weird refresh on the Dashboard....

        are both server and frontend running on the same machine ?
        what is the load on the server ?

          Ah ok! Thanks! That looks like what I'm seeing.

          Yes, the server and frontend are running on the same box.

          Here is the quick snapshot from the Dashboard. The load is not heavy.

          HTML Code:
          Number of hosts (monitored/not monitored/templates) 	107 	43 / 14 / 50
          Number of items (monitored/disabled/not supported) 	2460 	735 / 1531 / 194
          Number of triggers (enabled/disabled)[true/unknown/false]  357 	357 / 0  [0 / 12 / 345]
          Number of users (online) 8 3
          Required server performance, new values per second 9.07972222222 -

              maybe you can see this

              I meet the same problem ,and I fix it by :
              modify the file
              "/home/zabbix/web/conf/zabbix.conf.php" ,

              change
              "ZBX_SERVER=localhost"

              to
              "ZBX_SERVER=127.0.0.1"

              then it is OK.

                thanks for the idea I've tried changing this, still getting the errors.

                Looking through the log I don't see any issues. Debug level is set to 3 right now.

                  Seems there is no solution for this problem yet.

                  I'm having it too on Zabbix 1.8 running on Ubuntu 9.10

                    I see that there is some changes on bugfix:
                    works as expected after latest changes in the corresponding branch, rev 8730.

                    Where can we get a fixed version, will it be available for download from zabbix.com? (http://www.zabbix.com/download.php)

                      fix will be included in 1.8.1; if you want it right now, you can grab frontend from svn.
                      please note, this only affects socket error displaying in dashboard, if you have some problems regarding frontend communication with server, this change won't impact that.

                        Excellent! Thanks for the update and the fix!

                        In my case the server process is running just fine, it's just the error appearing on the dashboard.
