Problem installing Zabbix 1.8 on SUSE Linux ES 11

    Hey folks,

I'm trying to get Zabbix 1.8 running on a Suse Linux Enterprise Server 11.

I've had the missing mysql devel library files error (see other threads) ; finally I managed to compile and do a make install properly.

Now I'm stuck at running the webbased setup, all flags are green except PHP5 Sockets support.

I'm using YAST and I've browsed the SDK CD1, there's a version mismatch in the packages.

The one on the SDK is PHP-Sockets 5.2.6.50.17

the php version I got is PHP 5.2.6.50.23.1 x86_64

I've tried everywhere to locate the proper PHP Sockets extension file, so far to no avail.

Another way might be to recompile PHP altogether from php.net ; although I have no idea what that would mean for other packages like Apache2 and MySQL.

Can anyone help me out with either the right RPM for PHP Sockets 5.2.6.50.23.1 or tell me how to recompile PHP5 with sockets enabled?

It's rather frustrating to get this far and then struggle with that final installation pre-requisite check to go unfilfilled.

    Never mind

    Never mind,

I downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 Server and formatted everything and started from scratch

a few apt-get install commands later for the right libraries and it was up and running.

Time spent getting it NOT to run on Suse Enterprise server 11: a day and a half.
Time spent getting it to run on Ubuntu Server 9.10: an hour and a half.

      Zabbix 1.8 on openSUSE 11.2

The installation of Zabbix 1.8 on openSUSE 11.2 is almost transparent, very easy.

The Apache and PHP modules can be installed directly from the webpin page, just using the 1-Click install button.

      Greetings.
