    Possible slowness of snmp polling

    Hi,

When I stop the monitoring of my 50 Cisco switches (snmp only hosts), the item queue falls to almost 0 items in queue.

When I enable them back, the queue gets filled with 3000+ item delayed for 10+ minutes. And then slowly (very slowly) falls back to almost 1500 items delayed.

Is it possible to optimize the snmp polling ? Could this be related to the templates I use (which makes use of dynamic OID) ?

    Thanks for your help.

How many SNMP pollers you have configured in zabbix server config?

If you are running 1.8.x,consider increasing of number of pollers to 50-100. It should help!

        Hi,

        Thanks for your reply.

Do you refer to the StartPollers parameter ?

Is it safe to raise it to 50-100 ?

Maybe Mysql will complain about too many connections ?

It is safe if you are using 1.8.x. Pollers do not need any connections to the database.

I raised the StartPollers to 50 and now, the zabbix account on mysql server (which is not on the same host as zabbix server) uses 65 mysql connections.

            Is there an issue ?

More infos : zabbix server and php frontend are on the same machine. They connect to the mysql server using an ssl encrypted tunnel (binding to localhost, dbport 3307) with stunnel.

Now the zabbix queue is empty. Which is perfect. But can someone tell me why Zabbix uses ~65 mysql connections ?
              Thanks.

because every poller has its own connection to the MySQL server
