Zabbix Config: Version of zabbix agent was changed

    Hi

Can anyone explain what this means please?

"Zabbix Config: Version of zabbix agent was changed"

We have about 350 hosts on zabbix. Several times a month our entire server stops, as about 40 - 80 hosts show as unreachable constantly because zabbix CPU is maxed at 100%. I've noticed everytime this happens, I notice the following message, which appears to happen on all servers:

Zabbix Config: Version of zabbix agent was changed

This agent change causes our server to fall over. now I have to wait about a day or two for zabbix to finish what ever its doing, before it works as normal. This is not good at all as we provide a service to our clients to monitor their servers, but at the moment we can't because its showing between 40 - 80 servers unreachable.

Please can someone assist me ASAP, I need to get this sorted and prevent it from happening again.

    Thanks in advance.

The only time I see this is when I physically change the version of the agent on the host.

It helps if you specify what version of Zabbix you are using, both server and agents.

      Thanks for the response

Is there an auto update option or something? Our server is running 1.6.8 and clients are running earlier versions of 1.6.

There's no Zabbix automated way to push out an updated agent. You could probably do it with something like Altiris.

        Anyway...

You should test updating the agent on one host - update the agent to 1.6.8 and see if that resolves your issue.

Outside of that, you could bump up log tracing and start checking your Zabbix logs to see what is happening at the time of these alerts.

          Hi

The message has re-appeared and causing major issues. WIll do so for the remainder of the day.

Is anyone able to assist please?
Everytime this happens we get an alert saying the zabbix agent was updated. Is it just a config that is updated, or the actual client?

How can I prevent this from happening?

          Thank you

Zabbix CPU is maxed at 100%, yes, but what is the cpu actually doing. Zabbix_server itself uses very little cpu. I think you may find that mysql is 'maxed'. I noticed, elsewhere, that you have "tweaked mysql db but nothing happens", I would suggest that you search the forums for more db tuning threads. Try this one for starters http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12407

I don't believe that your agent was changed by itself, zabbix doesn't have an auto-update. Why you need to wait a day or two is beyond me, once again I would suggest checking your database configeration.

            Compare this with yours:
            Hosts = 167; Items = 9874; New values per second = 108.92
Time to generate graphs on screens < 1 second
Housekeeper running hourly Deletes 210,000+ records in 13 - 15 seconds.

Don't give up on Zabbix yet!

Disclaimer: All of the above is pure speculation.

              Hi

Thanks very much for your usefull info.
My new values per second is 28 and its falling over

I've tried all your suggestions. I got 8GB ram but only a 32bit install so I dont think I can use more than 3.5GB of RAM.

I've tweaked and made useful changes. Will let you know how it goes.

              Cheers
              G

                So far so good

Zabbix idling between 30 - 60% CPU which is a major improvement.
Time in the long run will tell but I have noticed some incorrect DB settings I think will help alot.

                Thanks very much again.
