Network data collection failed

Hi,
I upgraded zabbix 1.6.6 to 1.8.2. Since then zabbix doesn't collect the traffic of the network interface anymore. In the zabbix server logs I get the following error message
net.if.in[eth0,bytes]] error: Type of received value [7537381020711] is not suitable for value type [Numeric (float)]

Whenever I change the item it is working for one time and the next time it fails again.
I need to have a solution without loosing the historical data of this item.

Any help would be appreciated.

It seems that it corresponds to this bug report https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBX-1126

As it is marked as fixed in 1.8.3 which is not yet released, you may try latest nightly build.

how do I get access or where do I find the nightly builds, to resolve the
"not suitable for value type" problem

either checkout from svn, or download snapshots from http://www.zabbix.com/developers.php
